Keeping Food Simple

Food does not have to be complicated or fancy. The sicker someone gets, the easier food needs to be. Keeping food simple can be one of the best healing tools you have!!

There will ALWAYS be someone to judge, complain, or stick their nose up at what you eat. That is okay, that is them. This is YOU. What is important for YOU?

While you are walking through chronic illness, easy and nutritious is usually the answer. Not every single bite is going to be perfectly configured. Instead, the goal is to keep food as simple and nutrient-dense as possible, without the stress.

How To Keep Food Simple and Nutrient Dense

ONE bite at a time!!!

Surely you have heard the adage, to eat an elephant you have to take it one bite at a time. Same holds true for every meal you consume while you are ill.

One bite at a time!!!

If you usually eat in the SAD matter (Standard American Diet) then adding one single healthy ingredient to your diet is a huge big deal, DO IT.

If you have spent years refining your diet and you know all the ins-and-outs of the “perfect diet” then maybe your one healthy ingredient is RELAX. The stress of perfection can cause disease!! Seriously.

If you are somewhere in the middle, like many walking through chronic illness, thinking simple and nutrient-dense can lighten the load. Food can become so complicated during illness that we end up with added stress over it.

Throwing up your hands and relieving the stress by not caring is not going to get you any healthier. Nor is becoming so legalistic that every bite is stress-filled.

Shifting focus to simple and nutrient-dense can be one way of dealing with the food issue during illness.

I know, fruit is not supposed to be something we eat during illness, too much natural sugar.

I know, dairy is not supposed to be something we eat during illness, hard to digest, highly allergenic, and mucus creating.

No, this is not a “perfect” meal. But look how it transforms to the perfect choice for the moment…

So, grab some dairy-free yogurt and eat only one piece of FRESH fruit a day instead of 5. If you have any seeds or nuts, add them. Fresh herbs would be a delightful healthy addition. That is an example of an easy, simple and nutrient-dense meal.

Then let the rest of the stress surrounding the meal go!!!

Increasing nutrients and decreasing stress help to create an environment for a body to heal.
