I know this chronic illness stuff is for the birds because it has gone on so long and it is stinking hard. I know you are tired of it. I know it has exhausted your resources in every direction. There are days we wish it away. Be done, be gone!!!!! As much as we want to, we cannot wish it away. Even when we have put effort galore into it already, there is still more backbone to be done.
You don’t need a lecture from me.
You already know how hard it is to be chronically ill.
You already know that time is slipping away and enough progress is not being made to get out of the slippery slope of illness.
You already know that you HAVE put backbone into it without what appears to be enough results.
All I can say is that I am sorry, I know how hard this is.
Keep reaching deeper. Keep reaching for your backbone and not your wishbone.
One day you just may see some improvement that encourages you to keep moving through chronic illness instead of getting stuck in it.
By noticing our self-talk we can locate which bone we are relying on — wishbone or backbone.
Are we saying…”I am stuck in this illness and that’s the way it is?? That kind of thinking relies on a wishbone mentality for healing.
Are we saying… “Today I don’t feel as bad as last year, I will keep taking care of myself??” That kind of thinking relies on a backbone mentality for healing.
I know it takes tremendous effort (aka: backbone) to believe and work on a healing journey.
What is your mentality, wishbone or backbone??
“You’re wishin’ too much, baby. You gotta stop wearing your wishbone where your backbone oughtta be.”
