When was the last time you were so excited you were giddy? I mean actually giddy. The kind that feels like a kid in wonderland. I don’t want to walk. I don’t want to take one step at a time. I want to run towards the light, fling open the doors and soak in all that life has to offer. I can see it right in front of me. I can feel rays of hope surround me. I know that it is just right there, right in front of me. I can see the opening beaming with sunshine and the inviting doorknob. Let’s go….
Every moment of life cannot be this exciting but we can enjoy the times that are filled with childlike wonder and fascination. No one person can grasp all that life actually has to offer. As we ride the hills and valleys the giddy seems to come and go. Maintaining a constant state of it would lose the wonderment of it all. These are moments that are few and far between and can be embedded in our minds and hearts to sustain us through the duller days. These journeys into our next adventure of life are so filled with wonderlust that a picture cannot gather all the fairy dust to show others. I even had to make up a word like “wonderlust” to try to explain. It is far beyond a treasured moment because it transcends all understanding. It takes us places we could not even dream of and transforms our lives so we can fly high with the wind of heaven under our wings.
When you have had an experience like this you have more of an ability to feel it coming on the next time it happens. Life is about to change. Everything that has been turned upside down is going to be placed right side up in the order it is truly meant to be. In a way that is bigger than your biggest craziest fantasy about your life. You don’t have all the answers and you don’t know the exact plan but the unknown is perfectly enticing. It removes the fear so apprehension is left in the dust. It is just a fact, it is just the path that is meant to be and you are warmly invited to skip, run or glide right through it. No dawdling allowed.
Recently I watched C.S. Lewis’ The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. What fun. I did not have any small children with me, I simply wanted to watch it again. This movie, and the original book, in an overly simplistic explanation, is a contrast of good and evil. Lewis mixed different mythologies together in the fairy-tale land of Narnia.

The movie reminded me the value in attempting to keep our childlike faith which Lucy, the 4-year-old English girl in the movie, exemplified. When she passed through the back of the wardrobe and saw this wonderland she was in awe. The kind of awe that makes me giddy with anticipation. Those moments cannot be reproduced or manufactured. In real life, while making the movie, the two youngest children were never shown the set before filming scenes of their characters entering Narnia. Director, Andrew Adamson, wanted to capture that sense of “wonderlust” on film, and that he did. It captured my sense of delight through the screen to watch them slowly take in the magical set.
Movies can take us far from reality but they can also remind us to open up our own reality. As I walk through my own magical doors to wonderland I am truly giddy with excitement for what lies ahead in my new adventure. Life never turns out how we expect, sometimes it takes the rough roads to create the character to walk through the unexpected magical doorway.
