If you are overwhelmed with fear and gripped by panic, you are not even going to be able to see this gift handed to us on a silver platter. Time is a valuable commodity. This is a rare opportunity when a virus has shut us down and isolated us and we find ourselves with more time than ever. What an odd situation. We have been given the gift of time so let’s take it!!
Dr. Todd Watts presented this poem yesterday as a reminder of the value of this opportunity.
Take time to think; it is the source of power.
Take time to read; it is the foundation of wisdom.
Take time to play; it is the secret of staying young.
Take time to be quiet; it is the opportunity to seek God.
Take time to be aware; it is the opportunity to help others.
Take time to love and be loved; it is God’s greatest gift.
Take time to laugh; it is the music of the soul.
Take time to be friendly; it is the road to happiness.
Take time to dream; it is what the future is made of.
Take time to pray; it is the greatest power on earth.

When was the last time you had this much time on your hands?
Don’t you have thoughts daily about wishing the rat race would slow down?
For the chronically ill community, we are a bit more used to the slower pace. But even for us, things have slowed down even more. Churches are closing so we don’t have that connection. Doctor’s offices are dialing back. Grocery stores are emptying so they are not as busy. Just everything has slowed to a snails pace.
Okay, it is weird. I know this is a very odd situation and there are oodles of people freaking out. If you have read this far, you most likely are not one of them.
So think about how you can take advantage of this extra time.
Stuck, don’t know where to start. Read the poem again. Take it one line at a time and just stop and do it. Might be fascinating what relationships might get repaired during this slow-paced time. Might be soul healing to connect with a higher power.
When was the last time you had the luxury of spending the afternoon daydreaming? How fun is that!!
For the chronically ill community, I know this situation might not change much. Many of you are already isolated and lonely. This is a great time to reach out to someone else who is isolated and lonely. No… don’t say “now you see what it is like.” Those of us who have been ill for a long time do have those thoughts. But that does not gain anything to say them out loud.
The chronically ill might find this time to be the moment that a long lost child happens to call because they are lonely. Or an old friend that never understood your illness and your intense loneliness and now all of a sudden they want to chat. Hummmm, isn’t life interesting how it ebbs and flows.
This is a time to take the time to find a more peaceful existence with yourself and others. It is a time to do something special for yourself or others because you have the time to do it.
Use this unique opportunity of extra time for good!!
